Hi Martin,

Search for Capture One Ambassadors, they usually offer a 10% discount coupon/voucher code.

Here is one of many:

Hi Martin,

You'll also find a 10% discount at the end of my Capture One Pro 11 review - http://alexonraw.com/capture-one-11/

Thank you both for your suggestions. I am somewhat pleased with using Lightroom, but not keen on a subscription approach and at present have the fixed version on my Mac. Capture one sounds like a really good alternative but the $299 US is a distraction. Being in Canada and our $ is low this brings it to about $380. Presently I think I will download and try the system and evaluate my thoughts. I see that some times Capture One as been offered at substantial discounts ... so will keep my eyes open.
Both your thoughts are appreciated. I must say, Alexander, your review has also helped me and watched one of your videos. All this and a bit of patience  will help me with the learning curve.
Thanks
Martin

I was surprised by how much the 'update' price went up. 120 euros plus about 23 euros in vat. So close to 150 euros for an update from C1pro 10 to 11. Uhh, I think I'll skip 11 and wait on 12. Maybe I can get 11 when they are about to release 12 for a more reasonable price? I guess it depends on what they are updating.

Last year I paid 120 for the update from 9 to 10 and even that I felt a bit excessive.

Maybe I'm not 'with it' in terms of value for this update. But dang. I just bought dx0 for 200 euros. Years ago, maybe even today, Lightroom without subscription was $150.00

Ok. I'll stop kvetching.

Ouch, that VAT really gets you.  In the US it worked out to $107 with the discount code and there is no tax.

Capture One pricing is strange: from the Store at Phase One - USD 299 / EUR 279 (+ VAT). So without VAT that's about £246 when the Dollar rate is £214 equivalent, so that's £30 thrown away. Then, which is why I post, Digital transitions has a 25% discount on for the show: WPPI25OFF ( no commercial connection) https://digitaltransitions.com/select-specials-wppi/
But as I live outside the USA I cannot buy that on-line, (USA address required for the purchase) and I would also not pay VAT by purchasing outside the EU area, UK dealers I have not seen being that generous with discount, the VAT is outside their control.
So for wise buying I could have C1 for £160 but best is an ambassador discount and UK purchase so VAT added giving £266. A global market?

Isn't the C1 pricing model now a de facto subscription one, albeit one you pay once a year instead of once a month?

I think so.

That said, the bells and whistles in C1 11 have no attraction for me. Happy to carry on with C1 10 for the moment.

No, nothing stops working if you don't choose to pay anymore.

Fair point.

But, you are stuck with what you’ve got after about 12 months.

So, if you want anything updated, you need to pay.

That's the same for most things you buy. Tables, cars, cookers, saws........ You want a better one, you buy it.
