Light Rays at Clingmans Dome

I had a pretty dramatic sunset (though it was cold) on Clingmans Dome a while back.  I thought this particular image was more suited for monochrome.

The BW version is superb, so I expect the colour version might be a bit of a let down.
But, of course, I'm still curious.

Like the B&W best and the first color image.  The reason I like the first color image is for me the intense color of number 3 distracts me from appreciating the subtlety and intrigue of the layering.  Of course, I have a bias against intense colors:)   Well done!

Thank you!  I respect the preference, the colors are what they were though I didn't do anything to mess with them.  I've noticed that most of the sunrise/sunset stuff I shoot on the lake near where I live never have those golden/orange hues in the sky, unless it is reflecting off of clouds...at least not to that extent.  I've seen it over the ocean, and I've seen it at higher elevations.  I find myself wondering if it is because of the hills, etc. I'm shooting in.  The only time I see that kind of color around here is during what would be considered twilight.
