Looks like another step in digital imaging. Happily looking forward to Photokina  :-)

Why hasn't this come up before?

I'm guessing $100k.

You don't have to guess. The price is already published. Around $30K.

Thank you for the link.  Brilliant concept!
Very interesting time we live. I am not sure that I can understand how a scanning back can work so fast.
I noticed that the Roundshot beast has an Alpa lens mount panel. It was known that Seitz Phototechnik AG manufactures Alpa cameras. I hope to see something new and unexpected from Alpa at Photokina .

OH MY GOD. That is so cool!!!!

Reading the blurb, it sounds like they have a real winner, bring on the samples and reviews. This sounds like what I really need, not just the huge files, but the whole cassette idea so it can go on a monorail for studio/architectural as well, may even be suitable for talent utilizing the smaller formats. Yay.

And it uses real lenses!

Did I say Yay already?

Don't get too excited by scan backs unless you really enjoy shooting at 3 ASA, well they need a lot of light anyway.

Ok, maybe they are getting better, but just check out the technical details.  Shooting handheld has not been viable in the past. I think that the shot is just for scale.

As for use on other platforms... you can already get scan backs that fit on monorails and if one really wants 70Mp one can stitch an Aptus 75 or Phase 45 and get that without the oddities of scanning backs.

I think that this camera has a market size of 3.

I'd love to pull one out of my back pocket in front of a client though.

It reminds me of the guy with the huge telephone on 'Trigger Happy TV'

Did you read the specs that the lowest speed is 500  ASA all the way to 10,000?
Did you follow the link to see the sample photo is an action shot?

I know more than three people ready to buy, all in China (you won't believe how
rich the riches are there -- one of my friends has 9 Alpas and 3 Glides and they
grabbed almost all the Hasselblad Special Editions), so I'll bet with you on the
market size.  Compared to the P45 (39MP) backs at roughly the same price,
this sounds a real bargain and even I am very attempted if everything goes well.

No I didnt' read that, as this is in fun, I was aiming for an unfair cheap laugh.  Actually as I've used swing lens cameras I'm familiar with the way that they can make handholding easier at slower shutter speeds.

10,000 ASA. What does that mean exactly?

As for 9 Alpas... well, I guess its good for Alpa and I'm happy to hear that.  I'm glad that there are wealthy hobbyists to support some of the more esoteric companies. Whats a glide?

Looks to me like it is made for CGI shots, no need for a 360degree cam elsewhere.

To my knowledge, a Canon 5D with a fisheye will do just fine. And it's not a scanback, which is virtually unusable outdoors.

Please go to this lead for discussions on scanning backs outdoors.
It contains input and explanations from Nick Rains, a very well
respected Australian landscape photographer who does a lot
panoramas.

Repeat: check out the sample photo -- it is an action shot under
the sun on surfers! : P

I see your point, and I also checked the specs of this new camera.
There still is a likeliness of colour fringing and bluriness in the moving parts of the image, I assume.

As for the action shot of the surfer, I for one would like to see a high-res file, the website picture doesn't show me anything.
Each his own, though.
