Not at Adorama.  Web site has it listed for $1395.00.  Someone who ordered said he was never asked about previous printer.

Dear fellow protographers/printers in Canada, has anybody ever bought a large printer from the US? Did you have to pay duty on it? I know I have to pay GST/PST.

Both Adorama and B&H list this printer at less than 1400. B&H has shipping of around US$300. This a huge deal compared to the Canadian price of C$2500.

I ordered (and received) mine from Pictureline as well. Great people to work with it seems. Amazon had it in stock for a while too. Their shipping was less than Pictureline, but the sales price was considerably higher. My net price was very reasonable overall as they sell the roll feed for a bit less too if you enquire by e-mail.

Edit: Sorry, I was typing while the above was being posted. My note was not in reference to Canadian purchase as I'm in the western U.S. Just a note to mention that I received good service from the vender at a price with which I'm quite satisfied.

Regards, Dale

You can find the duty rate - if any - on the CRA website - often it depends not only on the item but also the country of origin (where manufactured). You should also check with Canon whether they will honour their warranty in Canada for a printer bought in the USA. They do for lenses and cameras, but I don't know the policy for printers. Also it is advisable to find-out who takes shipping damage risk - the store, the shipper or you? (It's a big heavy monster.) The fact this printer is being so heavily discounted relative to its launch price is something to think about.

Printers face no duty like most electronics (spoke to CBSA today). You would pay GST, PST, and any fees from the shipping company for brokerage fees, etc.

Still, with the weak US dollar, it might still be better to go with a US supplier.

Color HQ is currently selling the IPF5000 for $1,395, which is a good deal.  They recently ran a special where that price included the roll paper holder and a free maintenance cartridge.  That special was concluded yesterday, unfortunately, and was reported on a different thread in this forum.

I took advantage of the ganga deal and have found them very pleasant to deal with - my printer is en route.

Also, ColorHQ is now offering the roll feed unit for $150 when ordered with the printer, and free shipping.

Still a decent deal.

Free shipping is USA only. For Canada, they appear to offer a $100 shipping credit.

Since it is applied at the time of purchase, it should reduce your tax burden proportionately.

I'm toying iwht the purchase, but it is still a lot of coin vs a B9180.

I just checked with ColorHQ, and found that they are only charging $100 for the roll feed unit when ordered with the printer! (There was a typo on their website, and they've cleared it up now - in our favor.)  Nice company to do business with!
Here is the email I received back from ColorHQ:

"Irvin,

We just noticed the problem and it has been corrected on our site.  Thank you for bringing that to our attention.  The Auto Roll Feed Unit is $100 extra when purchased with an ipf5000.

Thanks,
