best price Canon ipf5000?
« on: September 17, 2006, 11:08:04 AM »

Just wondering if anyone has found a reliable supplier with a better price than the $1800 which Adorama and B&H are offering?
Thanks.

I checked it out of curiosity - if it were me I would be very careful to research the reputation of this supplier, why they only have one unit to sell at that price, and whether it is brand new, in an unopened box with all the components, North American market supply, covered by a North American Canon warranty, etc., etc.

If you want this printer in particular, what I'm going to say next won't matter to you. It is this: On this website information has appeared about a new Epson 3800, 12 inks, 17 inch size, to be priced at 1150. If you don't need more than 13 inch width, the new HP B9180 for about 40% of the price of the Canon is really looking attractive.

http://www.digitalgraphicsresources.com has it for $1896.00 with free shipping! There is also a $500.00 trade up rebate available until the 30th.  With rebate and shipping this takes the printer down to about $1100

You might want to check eCost.com. They are ~$1820 US with ~$80 to ship to Central NY state. They also ship to Canada. If you can qualify for BillMeLater, you get 6 months interest free to pay for it (or arrange a bank loan).

I am also shopping for an iPF5000 at a good price. I have an Epson 1280 with a MediaStreet Niagara II bulk ink system and pigment ink. I have a love/hate relationship with it. When I want to casually print a couple of prints, they are bang on. When I really want/need to make a couple of prints, it gets petulant and colors are off, nozzle check pattern shows clogged nozzles even after several cleanings. Yet, if I leave it to to sulk for a couple of days, it prints as if the previous problems were just a bad memory.

I'm waiting to see what the Epson 3800 looks like as well but I think you mispoke about it. It doesn't have 12 carts just 9( as in photo black & matte black which are switched without major loss of ink). I would think that it will have the same gamut as previous x800 series printers although it appears to have a new algorhythm for printing that may give more resolution  and less smudging (is that a word?). In the review of the ipf5000, Michael suggested it would have a larger gamut than the Epson. The only way to tell in a real world trial would be to print the same file on all printers and compare with the viewers blinded as to which printer printed which print.

I got mine from Pictureline for $1499.
Apparently Canon has let retailers discount them now, because of the emminent 3800 release.

Any suggestions for buying in Canada. I live in BC and can't even find a distributor. This goes for media as well. It's too much cost and hastle buying in the states.
Thanks

Will do.

I'm curious if you bought from them just because of price, or was prior experience or proximity part of the reason.

Thanks.

I just purchased the printer while at the Photoplus expo for 1349.00 plus free roller and shipping. THe company is www.promarketinc.com. This deal is good until the 15th of sept.

And just found out it is being delivered tomorrow. Free 2 day Shipping!

Good luck.

You must own an Epson 17" or larger format printer to get this price.

Not at Adorama.  Web site has it listed for $1395.00.  Someone who ordered said he was never asked about previous printer.

Vistek has them and The Camera Store too. Both quote me around 300 dollars shipping to Victoria. I have not been able to find _anybody_ in BC who is willing to sell me one.

With both Vistek and The Camera Store  I'd save PST. Their price is almost the same.

None of the stores in Victoria wants to sell me one (Lens and Shutter, Kerrigsdale). I emailed Canon today for any other distributor in BC (I am waiting for their reply).

The main problem is that it is big and bulky and can't be ship using traditional methods. For instance, I was quoted at some point a price, but I'd have to "get it from the back of the truck". If I can sort the shipping issues I'll order it this week.
