Not that there's anything wrong with that
« on: November 19, 2017, 11:54:44 pm »

"Not that there's anything wrong with that", classic Seinfeld.

Is it an insult to say on this forum that a landscape image would look good on a travel agents wall?

Just thinking?

Cheers,

Cheers,

Probably, but not as insulting as saying that it would look bad on a travel agents wall.

Having had images in said position, I'd be happy to have them there again.

Sweet dreams... different times and expectations.

The problem, as I've indicated elsewhere in LuLa, has been the confusion and often misplaced assumption of art and photography being interchangeable concepts. As Saul would have said, sometimes but not always.

In some circles it would be even worse, having one's images included in a travel guide.

Not as insulting as "chocolate-box pretty" 😊

Having said that, I don't mind if one of mine is described as such. After all, as Rob already pointed out, not everything in photography is about art, or "high art" in particular. There is a utilitarian value to it as well, or decorative. Ending up on a travel agent's wall or a chocolate box simply means a job done well, suiting the purpose.

The purpose of travel pictures is escape. If it's performing that function, then it works. I always enjoy looking at Travel photo magazines and calendars. They'te escape mechanisms that encourage you to travel. They  belong on a travel agency's wall.

Don't short change travel agents. A friend of mine is a travel agent and I loaned her this six foot print to decorate her new office.  It was never my intention to earn revenue from it, but it sold within a week, along with a companion image.

*update*
That very image just sold again. From the same travel agent's office.

Not surprising.  It's a damn fine image and looks like a GREAT print.  And THAT is a great way to sell prints.  Congratulations.

Yes, i can see how that would be a serious insult. If your local travelagent sells more prints of places than tickets that actually get you there, it may not be such a good travelagency with which to associate your prints, no?

On the other hand, they are just selling dreams like any other commercial venue, so it would make sense, but one should wonder if perhaps she mist her vocation. She up for a challenge? Like sell more prints on commission?

I can't speak for others, in my case I would not be offended. I have seen high quality travel photos in many travel agents.

Not sure what you mean. You can't see it inline? If not, farmhouses.

Thanks, Mark.  The prints sold were from my (now defunct) Epson 9800.
Wait'll they see them from my Z3200!  :)  I can't wait, either. :)

I don't mind if people want my images on their walls. Even travel agents although I'm not convinced there are many left.
My stuff winds up in vacation guides too (local and state level stuff) and I'm generally happy to see some action in my photo business.
