Looking at the comparison of achieved sharpness using Pixel shift vs Single shot on high resolution FF cameras:

I wonder how a regular HDR workflow can be replaced and improved by Pixel shift in (nearly) still applications such as architecture, interiors, landscape, still,... The reason for HDR is obviously the lack of DR in the sensor vs the scene, but modern FF cameras have already reached a great DR, and Pixel shift even improves it a bit further (1 stop statistically estimated according to  4 shots combined information).

Since Pixel shift (so as HDR) cannot be used in 100% of the situations, first a comparison of both vs Single shot:

If we restrict ourselves to using either HDR or Pixel shift for maximum quality, which one could be best as a regular workflow?

IMO pixel shift’s elimination of moiré is a big plus for fine detail photography regardless of anything else. If fine detail were my thing I’d be all over the a7rIII, I think.

Guillermo, thank you for this comparison. So I may need this a7rIII anyway...

And non-progressive blending, that would be killing IQ. In fact I would go for just two shots 3EV apart by default. More DR is even difficult to digest in pp.
