LED lights that are continuous and also "flash"
« on: November 11, 2017, 12:07:30 pm »

are these LED lights, "Rotolight Anova Pro" the only brand that can be used as continuos, lights that stay on like "hot lights"; and also "flash" like flash tube units?

Rotolight have several models (Anova is only one) that can function like traditional flash units, or like traditional constant hot lights, or as a combination.
All use the same LED technology and only vary by size (and therefore number of LED bulbs).

Does any one else manufacture LED continuos lights that also (pulse) "flash". Seems like innovative technology, and will anyone else start making them/

I have a cheap ring-light that does this. Honestly, as a flash it's pretty lame.

To put it in perspective, a basic 400Ws studio flash dumps its 400J in about 1/800 s. So during the time of the flash it's radiating at around 320kW (ie 320,000W).

Now maybe LEDs are 5 times more efficient, and you only use your flash at -3 stops... you're still at 8kW.

the same company just released a "continuos LED/pulsing light" combination at $399.98; the light would be "sufficient" for night-time and dark situations with no ambient light set-up type pictures. Waiting on reviews as it may be worth the price.
