Glad Canon are announcing things early. It'll only put pressure on the others to get theirs out there and fast.
It's a fun year for printers. Photokina will mark the debut to a whole new era ( in IT terms) of photo printing.

Yes, yes, announcements, announcements, announcements and never any functional units. It's now 3 months since the latest round of HP and Canon announcements. With the shortening of the product cycle there is less and less incentive to get debugged drivers and profiles out there.

I looked on Canon's website and there is a Canon IPF 8000s but it specifies there are 8 inks not twelve.

Canon has 2 iPF 8000 models.

The one with the "S" have 8 inks and is aimed for fast printing service, the original iPF8000, at a good price right now (about $4k), have 12 inks and is aimed for fine printing and photo.

The new "S" series seems to be available for pre-order on late october.

I wonder if the copywriter of the announcement gets paid by exclamation point. Sheesh.

Obviously this announcement is a year old. Canon has announced the new "s" 8 color versions of their large format printers and is about to announce the 8100 and 9100 at PhotoPlusExo that will include the same improvements that the 6100 and 5100 printers have. The new x100 printers will be at the same MSRP prices as the old ones (appx ~$6K, 13K) and in the meantime the old ones are going for bargain prices (~$4K, 6K). MSRP prices are one thing, street prices are another. Wait for the announcement and check with your favorite reseller (shadesofpaper, itsupplies, colorhq.com etc) for their pricing.
