DXO - PhotoLabs...
« on: October 30, 2017, 11:04:49 am »

Please read the messages I exchanged with Photolab support.
It's ridiculous.
The software has the possibility to export in DNG, except that if you delete the .dop file, simply the DNG file can not be read any more in Photolab.
Now the worst, the exported file is read perfectly in the LR or PS, with all the corrections.
This company still has a lot to improve ....

The DNG file exported by DxO is a linear DNG, meaning that it has been demosaiced (by DxO, if created in DxO) and any corrections applied in DxO have been burned into the demosiaced file.  It is no longer a true "raw" file.  This way, if you use a primarily Lightroom-centric workflow but want to use DxO first (to apply lens corrections, or PRIME noise reduction) you can use DxO specifically for these tasks and preserve the results in a form that is useable by Lightroom (the linear DNG).

There is no reason that DxO would need to read in the linear DNG - if you wanted to re-edit or continue to edit the file in DxO, you would simply want to work in DxO on the original raw file.  This is the way DxO has always been.

As far as the current problem with integration in the recent update of LR ("Classic") it sounds like something has changed on the Adobe side of things that has broken the traditional pipeline between DxO and LR.  My guess is it will be addressed in an update.

DxO has acknowledged that and stated it will be addressed in an update.

Without defenses .... the creadro and the creature ... DXO is ridiculous when it creates a DNG file that it can not read ... simple like this ...

The only purpose of the DNG created in DxO is to continue the processing in LR. It really makes no sense to reopen it in DxO. This has always been the case.

Even if the Linear DNG is not considered a "true"  RAW, the advantages of generating the DNG if you continue with LR:

- It is not color encoded yet, so you are not limited to the AdobeRGB space
- You can assign a dcp profile, even generate a dcp profile out of that DNG.

Btw, I find the integration between LR Classic (2018) and DxO Photolab to be working without any issue

With all due respect, you are trying to use a feature in a way that was not intended and that makes very little sense.

I just wanted to understand how someone creates something ... and in the future what you created can not understand .... you find it right?

Popular applications such as MS-Word and MS-Excel can save PDF files and yet they cannot open them. It is more common than you think

Thom Hogan's take on the integration of U-Point in Photolab:

http://www.dslrbodies.com/accessories/software-for-nikon-dslrs/software-news/digital-photography-softwar/the-return-of-capture-nx2.html

He seems to be sharing my view that they have played this one very well indeed.

Bernard
