It says little. Some sites were in, some were not, and it may be that Kevin's old links to PhaseOne didn't help Lula. Also, Adobe experienced lots of leaks this time - some accidental, some from Adobe's own support, others from beta testers. All that may have made them reluctant to open up any more.

You said it. The C1 bias on this site is palpable. :)

I miss the “inside info and insight” of days gone by.

Not grumpy... just wistful.

Well, I guess what you miss is the 18-24 month gestation period and the violent birth of a new major upgrade of software...but that's not the way software is developed these days...

While Kevin isn't on the inside of Adobe and didn't know the details of what was going to be announced at Adobe MAX...some of us were. Personally, I didn't think there was too much to write home about otherwise i would have. The end of perpetual licenses for LR was pretty much telegraphed (regardless of the way Hogarty was misunderstood).

As far as Lightroom CC (the cloud based version) nothing much to see there...it's LR with missing features and not designed for the LuLa marketplace. The odds are nobody here would seriously consider NOT using the full Lightroom Classic in favor of Lightroom CC. Is there?

Now we come to Lightroom Classic...what's new to see here? Well, Range Mask is pretty cool. I have been testing that for a while and was responsible for also keeping the older Auto Mask so you can use both in combination. Oh, and yes, Auto Mask has been improved as well...less grainy noise and smoother results. So, combining Range and Auto Mask together is a big workflow improvement for local adjustments...but it's an incremental improvement as are all the other improvements in LR Classic

I really don't know what all the noise is all about...I did warn Kevin that stuff would be announced at Adobe MAX but I was on the road in the Badlands with spotty cell coverage. So, I didn't get a chance to tell him a lot.

As far as LuLa being out of the loop...not really, but neither Kevin nor Chris are currently beta testers...if Kevin would learn how to actually USE Lightroom, I could prolly get him on beta...I've offered but Kev is a C1 leaning sort of guy.

In terms of videos and/or tutorials, that's something Kevin and I are due to talk about in a couple of weeks...the timing of which is dependent upon some stuff I know about that I can't really tell Kevin (well, I can't tell him publicly) but I suspect he knows some of it because he was with Thomas no too long ago and Thomas tends to tell friends what he's doing :~)

So, I think what you are missing is the old days of drama leading up to a major new upgrade and all the attending problems of trying to learn how to use it...that time has passed and won't be coming back, sorry.

Agree with both of those statements. Range masking with Auto Mask is actually very neat. It's as near a substitute for luminosity-masking-layers as we're likely to get without layers (which I'm happy not to have BTW).

I can't find anything on the market right now that is as useable (speedy development of a bunch of images) or as refined as LR Classic for such a wide range of development processes... and over the past 12 months I've tried everything and bought two or three (as insurance should they improve: my strongest hopes are with either Luminar or Affinity ... but both are a long way back on the DAM/Print timeline).

Also — although I'm unlikely to use LR Web or CC — LR for iOS is more advanced and not a bad "first instance" processor that allows me to determine on the road what will be worth processing back on the desktop. I just wish I could use my development presets from LR Classic in LR for iOS. Then I'd be able to use the two of them more successfully in "serial".

Best, P

Thanks for the input Jeff.  I'm sure we'll have some good chats on our trip.  Yes, I was with Thomas and we talked about a lot of things.  But, no I was not a beta tester of LR.  But, yes I do use it (sometimes) more so lately.  Always open for new instruction from Jeff (hope he is nicer to me than he was with Michael). So, I'll speak with Eric and the LR crew about being a beta tester in the future.  Still, it would have been nice to have a press release even with an embargo like we get from so many others.  Maybe next time.

I have tried the luminosity masking in AC and it is pretty cool.  Works great on landscape images which is what I tested it on.

The Cloud version is nice and kind of fun to adjust images on an iPad but I'm not sure it is something I would really adopt.  I certainly can see where the marketplace is for this product though.  I'm sure Adobe will add to the features over time.

I'm not sure Adobe care much, but wasn't Kevin employed by P1? My sense is that Michael was closer to Adobe, Kevin less so. That's just the way the cookie crumbles.

Maybe we can refer to this version as Lightroom Selfie CC and update the name as the features progress.

Hey! Jeff...

THANKS!  Your post is exactly the kind of insight and explanation I was talking about. LOL
But your points are well taken.

You are, the Man!  (Ever consider your own Photography Web Site?  “Swami Schewe’s Digital Nirvana”).  ;D

Well, this is what I got at 11am on Oct 18th....this was the press release:
––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––

Adobe Introduces New Lightroom CC Cloud Photography Service
Integrated Cloud-based Service Enables Easy Editing, Organizing, Storing, and Sharing of Photography From Anywhere

Today Adobe announced the all-new Adobe Photoshop Lightroom CC cloud-based photography service. Launched over a decade ago, Lightroom became the industry’s leading desktop application for editing and organizing photography. Now in an increasingly mobile-centric world, and with major improvements in smartphone cameras, Lightroom is transforming digital photography again. Built for professionals and enthusiasts, the new Lightroom CC fulfills the demands of today’s photographers for a more accessible, cloud-based photography service for editing, organizing, storing and sharing their photos from wherever they are.

Featuring a streamlined user interface, Lightroom CC enables powerful editing in full resolution across mobile, desktop, and the web.  With Lightroom CC, photographers can make edits on one device and automatically synchronize their changes everywhere. Lightroom CC makes organizing photography collections easier with features like searchable keywords that are automatically applied without the hassle of tagging. And Lightroom CC makes it simple to share photos on social media.

Key Lightroom CC capabilities
The most powerful image editing technology: Built on the same imaging technology that powers Photoshop and Lightroom, Lightroom CC offers a new streamlined interface with easy-to-use sliders, presets, and quick adjustment tools.

Edit anywhere: Lightroom CC allows photographers to edit full-resolution photos anywhere – on mobile devices, desktop, or the web. Edits made on one device are automatically synced across devices for anywhere access.

Worry free back-up, cloud storage: Lightroom CC has scalable storage options for safe and secure back up of full resolution photos – including raw files.

Powered by Adobe Sensei: Adobe Sensei’s machine learning technology automatically applies searchable keywords to objects in photographs – making organization in Lightroom CC effortless.

Built-in sharing tools: Lightroom CC makes it easy to share photos directly via social media and to create custom Lightroom web galleries that can be shared via link. Photographers can also share their work through new Adobe Portfolio integration with Lightroom CC.

Updated award-winning mobile and web experiences:
Lightroom CC for mobile on iOS: Built-in search functionality powered by Adobe Sensei, keyword support, hierarchical album support, an enhanced iPad app layout, and iOS 11 files support.

Lightroom CC for mobile on Android:
Tablet support and a local adjustments brush, along with the same built-in search functionality, keyword support, and hierarchical album support as seen in the iOS app.

Lightroom CC for web: Ability to create and manage a public gallery page, and enhanced integration with Adobe Portfolio, which enables subscribers to easily import collections and publish their best shots to a customized Portfolio website in just a few clicks.

Updates to Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Classic CC
Previously known as Lightroom CC, major updates to Lightroom Classic CC include an enhanced Embedded Preview workflow that enables users to scroll through large sets of photos to select a subset of images significantly faster than before. Lightroom Classic CC also features new editing capabilities, including a new Color Range and Luminance Masking functionality that enables users to apply precise edits. As contrasted with the cloud-centric, anywhere workflows of Lightroom CC, the new Lightroom Classic CC continues to focus on a more traditional desktop-first workflow with local storage and file and folder control.

The all new Lightroom CC is available across three photography plans:
For photographers that want an all-in-one plan that offers the full benefits of the Lightroom CC service plus the transformative power of Photoshop, the Creative Cloud Photography plan with 1 TB includes Lightroom CC, Lightroom for mobile and web, Photoshop CC, Adobe Spark with premium features, Adobe Portfolio, and 1 TB of cloud storage ($19.99/month, but available at $14.99/month for the first year for existing Creative Cloud Photography customers)

Lightroom CC has also been added to the existing Creative Cloud Photography plan with an additional 20 GB of storage to help users get started on the new service. This plan remains at $9.99/month and includes Lightroom CC, Lightroom for mobile and web, Lightroom Classic, Photoshop CC, Adobe Spark with premium features, Adobe Portfolio, and 20 GB of cloud storage.

Creative Cloud All Apps members also have access to the new Lightroom CC service.
The all new Lightroom CC plan addresses the needs of photographers who want a cloud-based photography service for editing, organizing, storing and sharing their photos from wherever they are, and includes Lightroom CC, Lightroom for mobile and web, Adobe Spark with premium features, Adobe Portfolio, and 1 TB of cloud storage ($9.99/month)

For those who are truly mobile and don’t require a desktop photography solution, the Lightroom Mobile plan for iOS and Android is available with 100 GB ($4.99/month).

Although I know you are probably under an NDA and you will not confirm it, after this comment my bet will go to Content-aware fill like in Photoshop...
