ImagePrint with Epson P9000
« on: October 17, 2017, 02:22:03 pm »

Does anyone have a P9000 running image print 10 ? I'm considering purchasing the product (last time I owned it was with a 9800 at v6) but would like to hear some general opinions on the quality of the output vs the standard epson driver with manufacturer supplied papers. Last night I tested the demo version but it's hard to judge the images with the big "demo" watermark getting in the way perceptually. I used to see strong differences on the old printer with version 6 of the software, but this time around I can't really see much of one with the very first test images I printed (besides the reduction of a purplish color cast in the blue in one of the images). Considering the price of the software for a 44" printer and the crappy Canadian dollar exchange rate this is a difficult choice to make.

Does anyone have some real world sample images that have a marked improvement in color quality vs the standard epson driver ?

I did a test print of one of the test images from digitaldog.com and i'm a bit confused by what is going on. The imageprint sample seems broken and inferior in pretty much all aspects unless I'm not seeing something crucial. Obviously a lot of details are lost in the quick scan but the only thing that appears better in the imageprint sample is the detail on the purple part of the fabric in the photograph next to the fish (marked A and B). There is also a very slight saturation drop in the imageprint sample that perhaps my scan is not picking up but is visible in the actual prints. The soft proof of both images (especially the ilford standard profile for this paper) is spot on when viewed on my eizo monitor. The image print one is close as well besides the magentas which seem slightly more saturated in the soft proof than the print.

Not all ICC profiles are created equally

In this 23 minute video, I'll cover:
The basic anatomy of ICC Profiles
Why there are differences in profile quality and color rendering
How to evaluate an ICC output profile
Examples of good and not so good canned profiles and custom profiles on actual printed output.

Interesting video. It still seems to me that colorbyte would know all this given they have a whole business centred around getting the best print out of the hardware. Is there anything quality wise you think imageprint can do better at this point than the standard epson driver using the best possible profiles ?
