Uploading photos
« on: October 15, 2017, 07:53:49 pm »

Hey, my 67 year old sister can upload photos to Facebook travelling overseas from a tablet. Why is it so hard for an experienced web user to upload photos to LuLa, a photography site? I shouldn't have to link to an image on a third party site.

Just thinking,

It isn't hard... for an "experienced web user" anyway

And you don't have to. Just click on the "Attachments and other options" and then click on "Attach"

So you have to be an experienced web user! You have got to be joking, the default should be "Attach" no it should be maybe like Facebook click Photo/Video. I'm an experienced web user and I find it hard to believe there is no intuitive way to attach a photo on LuLa a photography web site.

Just saying,

Notwithstanding the evidence ;)

P.S. I corrected my post above to put quotation marks around your reference to "experienced web user" since you don't really need to be one to attach an image to LuLa

Facebook is a multi billion dollar company that caters for the lowest possible capability.

Lula requires two clicks and then you select the image you want to upload.  It's very much a standard style of forum interface in that regard.

Perhaps it could be renamed "Image attachments and other options" but I'm pretty sure the vast majority of attachments here would be images.

It takes two clicks on Facebook and three clicks on LuLa to come to the same screen ... that's a 50% increase in Carpal Tunnel syndrome risk... awful ;)

This is all true IF you have the image already loaded somewhere on the web.  That takes few more keystrokes than three.
Other sites I belong to allow direct downloading and storage to the forum. No third party hosting required.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

It's a simple process.  At the bottom of the post select attachment and other options.  then choose file and then select the image to be uploaded.  You will then see the path for the file.  and click post.  the image I have uploaded is one that appears in our What's New section and was uploaded from my desktop.

You may be getting confused with trying to add an image from the tools at the top of the post page.   The image is then clickable to see at a larger size once posted.  Please read forum guidelines for maximum image size etc.

Slobodan is correct, you can upload directly.

The two problems are that the default is to link to another site, many clicks in the process, so much preperation.

The other is that you can choose, "Attachments and other options" and then click on "Attach". So intuitive, not.

There are approximately 1.8 billion images uploaded to the web each day. LuLa with around a dozen or so images uploaded each day needs to catch up…

Nope.

Exactly three clicks to upload an image from your computer. That is what I was comparing in my post above, as the OP wanted to upload photos from his computer.

Down the rabbit hole…

I have no idea what this post will look like. Adding a photo should be simple but it isn't.

It looks fine, Tom, there are two attachments visible.

The disadvantage of attaching an image is that you can not preview it before posting , I know.

But that's just the point.  After all these years, this is the first time I recall someone having an "extended" issue (others have asked how to do it, of course).

Like I said, beyond changing the name slightly, how can you make it any easier?

IMO renaming “Attachments” to “Images” would reduce confusion. The way it is now is an artifact from the e-mail era.  :)

Only an artifact from the email era would write it with a dash   ;)

OK, Tom now you can upload an image - mission accomplished.  The software cannot be modified by LuLa as it a third party solution.  Best we can do is request a better way to attach images or even better wording.  Consider that done.  We'll have to see if we something different in a future upgrade.

Hey I've just tried to reinvigorate my Remarkable Rocks thread. A quick look at the thread (175,000+ views) will show LuLa's historical problems with posting photos.

A "quick" look at the thread of 20 pages is impossible, so why not tell us directly what exactly is the "LuLa's historical problem with posting photos"? I never knew there is one.
