New Forum Membership
« on: October 10, 2017, 04:16:34 am »

Just a quick question for the team:
Does a person wanting only to participate in the forum need to pay for membership?
My understanding is no.
However, I have been contact with people who would like to join the forum but their experience is that they cannot get past being asked to pay the $1 a month that gives them access to the whole site.

I would appreciate some clarification as I have reviewed both the threads and video released in 2015 dealing with the issue and to me it is just ambiguous with regard to forum participation.

Thanks

Paid membership is not required for the forum with the exception of the For Sale section

Thank you Chris!

Nice to know that senility (fro me) has not yet set in...

Chris, is it possible to detail the process as it is currently to obtain forum membership without being asked to give credit card details etc...

Thanks

Tony,

I'd just like to add, for what it's worth, that while of course people are free to choose how they wish to participate here, 12 bucks a year is a few coffees at one's favorite coffee shop. Forum discussions often feed off of articles on the website, and various discussions in the Forum reference articles on the website. So in effect, it seems to me that people who really want to get the most out of their forum participation owe it to themselves to join the website. Perhaps a message worth sharing with the people who ask you about this.

Basically a new Forum & Site user would simply ignore the 'Subscribe' requests and continue through the 'Create Account' registration process.

Thanks Chris for the info!

To Mark Segal:

No problems with the principle but obviously people need to choose what they want - as far as the options go, of course!

Yes, that's pretty much what I said right up-front.
