7-day B&W Challenge
« on: September 25, 2017, 01:59:39 pm »

I've been really under the weather for 5 weeks, now, but today has been slightly better. Perhaps the docs have gotten a fix on the problem.

7-day B&W Challenge: Personally I kind of hate these things, but a good friend challenged me back in August, and I've never before attempted to do the 1-picture-a-day thing (never mind B&W). Quality of pictures aside, I actually learned something from the pursuit, including how difficult it is to be consistently "productive". Anyway, here are the pics.

DAY 1: A half-day, really, as I started the challenge about 2pm. Took some mediocre pics around the house and a series of blurry, mistimed shots of the granddaughter in the pool. This was the best of the lot. At 6 years of age, she has the energy that one can only envy.

DAY 2: Gilles. A trip to one of Nova Scotia's busiest fishing wharfs in Pubnico. This massive piece of metal is part of the mechanism on a "seiner".

DAY 4: The River Pub. A decent place to eat in my home town.

DAY 5: The Neighbour's Yard. A natural wave and some man-made curves.

DAY 6: The House on the Hill. A friend got a better pic of this abandoned house, but she had to traverse a deep ditch, squeeze through barbed wire, and stand in tic-infested weeds. I was reluctant to do so, as the week before (photographing with the same friend) I lost my footing and tumbled down a river bank onto some rocks. I washed the dried blood off my Billingham for the Day 3 picture.  :)

Well, you seem to have had a better visual week than many have a year. But that's because you have it inside of you already; all you had to do was follow through.

Nice going.

:)  If you ever find yourself in Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia, we'll definitely have to give that a go!

Take him up on it, Oscar. I can attest that Lunenburg County in Nova Scotia has a wealth of great photographic opportunities.

Changing environment every now and then is definitely inspirational, but short of that, next time he should tell us in advance he is starting a challenge, then post a result each day.

But challenge is stretching it here. I'm thinking of a different challenge, say: post a portrait of a random person you meet on the street using at most 85mm. (In other words no cheating with a long tele). Humans of NY

Well done, I find the challenge of one a week hard at times let alone one every day for 7 days. You also changed things up day to day. Your day 3 "Tools of the Trade" is my favorite of the 7. It is very well posed, captured and processed and it grabs my attention. It has a story and that story can be different for anyone which I think makes a great image. Thank you for sharing and hope you are feeling better soon.

Cheers,
Josh
