Lake Superior Gateway
« on: September 14, 2017, 09:08:43 pm »

Spent many warm family afternoons ,... enjoying the splendor of the open waters of Lake Superior.,...  but on that fateful day of Nov 10, 1975, somewhere beyond Whitefish Point (on the left) and Gros Cap point (on the right) The SS Edmund Fitzgerald sank,... tragically with all 29 crew members.  On that stormy evening I was shutting down our veneer mill shift,... and learned afterwards of the sad news.  Yes,  Lake Superior is truly a "mystical" body of water ,... but the Lake is not always as beautiful as it seems!

Your post brings back memories. We guys and gals who are old enough may recall the Gordon Lightfoot 1976 ballad: "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald," which commemorated this sad event. Those not familiar might enjoy the You Tube video with the song that shows the ship here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9vST6hVRj2A

ramd41,   thanks for the link to Gordon Lightfoot's tribute to the Captain and crew of the Edmund Fitzgerald. Glad some memories came back,... and thanks for viewing.
