color management policies locked on OFF in PS CC 2017
« on: August 31, 2017, 11:12:26 am »

I just finished installing PS CC 2017 on a new PC running under Windows 64 bit and I've noticed in Edit>color setting>color management policies that I can not choose the "preserve the embedded profiles" for RGB because it's locked on the OFF position.
The other options are greyed out and can not be chosen.
Any idea what I should do to unlock the OFF state?

How about giving us a screenshot of your base color management settings screen.

Try trashing your Photoshop preferences. Press and hold Alt+Control+Shift (Windows) or Option+Command+Shift (Mac OS) immediately after launching Photoshop. You will be prompted to delete the current settings.

I solved the issue.
the RGB working space was set to Monitor-sRGB IEC1966-2.1 instead of the usual sRGBIEC1966-2.1 and  that particular setting turns off the RGB color management.
Any monitor related profile turns of the RGB color management policies.

NEVER ever have that profile selected. And FWIW, that doesn’t turn off color management, not possible in PS.

Well I was speaking about RGB color management policies and that particular working space profile does indeed  turn it off in PS

It turns off the policy options. It absolutely does not turn off color management. Kind of a difference.

Doesn't change that this statement is wrong: that particular setting turns off the RGB color management.

As the Chinese proverb says: The first step towards genius is calling things by their proper name.
You didn't. Enough said.  ;)

I don't pretend to be a genius and  I really doubt that Confucius was considering himself one , he was rather looking for wisdom.
In fact his actual quote says "The beginning of wisdom is to call things by their proper name".
So according to your quote and the Confucian one you're not a genius and maybe not even wise.

Neither of us are genius but one of us understands color management in Photoshop actually works.
