Starscapes - Using Capture One to Filter Light Polution.
« on: August 30, 2017, 11:53:46 am »

I tried my hand at starscape photography a few nights ago.  I live in an urban area and, of course, suffer from light polution.  I was quite pleased with my first attempts taken with a Fuji X-Pro 1 with 14mm f/2.8 and an exposure of 20 seconds at f/2.8 at ISO800.  However that sodium light glow was there so, not having a suitable filter for the camera, I experimented with Capture One's  Advanced Color Editor.  With this tool you can adjust the Hue, Saturation and Lightness of a very narrow range of colours.  In this case I selected an area of obvious light polution and wound back its saturation and brightness. The first picture below shows the Capture One colour settings while the next two are the before and after colour correction images.  Your comments on the technique would be appreciated.
