I was wondering why Nikon has Produced the new D80, which has better specs than a D70s but uses SD cards. Is that a flaw? I believe that CF cards will develop much faster as more professional photographers use it. So why make the switch to SD card?

I'm a D70 owner with a small collection of CF cards who wonders what are the benefits of CF compared to SD cards? The smaller size makes them easier to lose I guess, but who would decide on that criteria? Are the bigger cards more robust? More reliable? Or is it just that now I'll have to buy another small collection of cards?
What exactly is better about CF cards? I'd really like to know.

I believe that Nikon's intent is that the D80 is the successor to the D50, and not the D70. Which makes the SD card issue more understandable.

We may see a D90 this month at the big show late in September, which might be a D70 successor.  Or maybe a D3H would would be interesting as it would presage a future D3X.

Hang in for a month and things might clear up accordiing to the prognosticators.

They're small and a lot of (most of?) the p&s cameras already use them so people probably have a bunch of sd cards.

Memory cards are cheap these days.
