Metallic Paper Recommendations in EU
« on: August 12, 2017, 10:33:06 am »

Hi

I'm looking for Metallic Paper Recommendations that are available in the EU.

I've found PermaJet Titanium Lustre, but a 24" roll is 30 meters and price wise a bit expensive to try first ;-)

You could get some cut sheets to try; they aren't particularly pricey. I played with it for a while but never really grew to love it.

I've used Moab's Slickrock Metallic in A2 size and like it quite well.  Link: Slickrock Metallic

In SpectrumViz the metal look and pearlescent look are put in their respective maps. Something you often can not conclude based on the names they have. However there will be brands and types available now than I could not collect. That said several are identical, only the labels vary.

Can you give more info on the difference of " the metal look and pearlescent look"?  I see for example that the two bonjet papers are both in the  pearlescent look.

Alain,

That is what they look like, I really can not describe one as having a metal appearance. The texture differs, that is the difference I see.

If you follow the link Fotospeed Metallic paper to On-line paper .co.uk and scrolldown they have 3 Fotospeed metallic papers, gloss, lustre and pearl. I've used the gloss version and like it, had good results.

Aren't the Epson metallic papers available in Europe?  The Epson Metallic Glossy is a nice paper that compares well to the samples I've tried from other manufacturers.

I assume it's too expensive to import papers from the U.S.? Breathing Color metallic is the most metallic looking paper I've printed on, even better than Red River (Mitsubishi) and Moab, though I haven't tried the Epson. If you could afford to import it you'd be very happy with it.

Hi

At the moment I'm looking at the "BONJET ATELIER SUPERMETALLIC GLOSS", available local.

Now looking for a profile for the canon ipfx400 ;-(

BONJET ATELIER SUPERMETALLIC GLOSS's paper base is a bit too blue / gray and the metal effect is not impressive.
Look rather to the Sihl Masterclass Metallic Pearl High Gloss Photo Paper 290 gr. which is the paper I know that most closely resembles the effect was in Cibachrome paper. So best metallic effect and the paper base has a neutral trend over the slightly warm nice paper base.
I have tried metal paper from Moab, Bonjet, MediaJet, Sihl Masterclass and in addition to the extreme Moab Slickrock Silver, Sihl is what I prefer.
However, MediaJet SIP Silver Iridium Pearl is also an interesting paper for B/W prints.
If you live in Denmark or Scandinavia, you at  Iversen Company can buy A4 test sheets at a reasonable price. I myself have been happy to be able to test new papers in this way, instead of buying a whole package of only two sheets of each test paper.
