Cellphone photograhy
« on: July 30, 2017, 10:38:46 pm »

During a recent trip, for the initial part of it I used my Oly E-M5 mark ii in jpg only. Short story, after upgrading the firmware this is the default and when I went through the settings I didn't see the option.
I also used a Samsung Galaxy S8+ and to my surprise in good light the photos were competitive with the E-M5 ii in jpg normal when shot at similar fov.
Since then I started using it more, particularly for easy to share versions but also for panoramas. The panoramas are quite good as long as the scene doesn't have a large dynamic range, good enough for most, including smaller prints. Yes, the corners are not as good and the dynamic range is less; but many times they reach good enough level.

I'm sure other newer phones have similar quality and I finally get it why so many stopped using "real cameras".

Here are some examples and it would be nice if others would contribute.

I agree with your assessment. Where were these taken?

I like your alpine images a lot. #1 is my favorite and #3 is not far behind.

I have fun shooting with my phone, but I can't say that I've found the quality in anything other than perfect conditions to be awesome. But every now and then... :)

3rd is a 360 panorama, it would have taken me a long time to get it with my camera and I'm not sure of my success.
