Switch from stand alone Lightroom to cloud version
« on: July 29, 2017, 03:50:26 pm »

Pardon my naive question. I started to have more interest in Photoshop

and can anybody give me some advice as to what damage, if any to my existing stand alone LR files when I download cc of LR and Photoshop?

Thank you. And is it correct to understand cc LR will be simply overwritten on the stand alone LR?

You can keep your stand alone LR.

Once you subscribe to the cloud you will get the latest iteration of LR and PS, for any reason if you sign out of the cloud LR will revert back to the stand alone version you had before the cloud and PS will begin a trial version. When you sign back in all will be restored to the cloud version again.

They are actually the same underlying program. It's just that the program acts like LR6 if you use a registration code, or like CC if authorised through your CC account.

I think it depends on the version numberbof your stand alone version. At some poit the format of the library has  hanged. A conversion from old to new cannot be reversed.

I will make it the latest and do I escape the problem or can I just download PS cloud only by leaving stand alone LR as is?

If you are going from Lr6 to LrCC, you don't need to download and reinstall it. However, doing so will allow you to install the latest update and makes it easier to ensure it is authorised with your CC account.

Don't be misled by the comment "A conversion from old to new cannot be reversed.". If you are going from an earlier version of Lr, remember that Lr6/CC will need to upgrade the catalogue. But it first saves a copy of the earlier version of the catalogue. This precaution lets you go back.

Also be aware that if you're currently at LR 6 stand alone, that any adjustments in the current iteration of LR CC 2015 will still show up in the stand-alone LR 6 license if you stop CC - you just wont be able to make any further adjustments using the CC-only features.
That may likely change though when/if LR 7 shows up, but if CC is stopped at that time, all modules should still continue functioning as-is except for Develop and Map in LR CC 20xx.  ...  At least that's what they've said.
