Summer orchids: Leptotes bicolor
« on: July 20, 2017, 02:30:36 pm »

Here's another orchid currently in bloom: Leptotes bicolor. It's a miniature, with flowers approx. 2 cm tip to tip, and a native to Brazil, Paraguay, and other areas of South America. I understand that the seed pods of this species have been used in past as a substitute for vanilla (also from the seed pods of another orchid). I had hopes that my plant would be fragrant, but so far not so much. Nonetheless, it does produce handsome flowers imho. I hope you will agree.

Thank you for viewing. Your C&C is welcomed.

Bob.
A very fine portrait of the orchid. Thank you. (The water droplets do distract a little from the overall beauty.)
I enjoy your fotos of plants and animals.
Please keep them coming.

Thanks Richard. I hear you about the droplets. I didn't want to wait for the flowers to dry, so I brought it in to photograph just as soon as the misting system turned off. Lessened the photo somewhat, but prolonged the life of the flowers during the recent heatwave.
