Where do you buy your OEM inks?
« on: July 15, 2017, 12:22:43 pm »

Where to buy discounted expired OEM Epson inks? After watching this guy hack his printer to take refills of OEM ink, I'm seriously thinking about following suit, unless ink can be bought somewhere significantly cheaper than  B&H, etc.

Where to buy discounted expired OEM Epson inks?
Any large volume reseller of Epson inks is likely to have a just in time inventory restocking system in place.  It would be extremely unlikely for B&H or Atlex to have expired or close to expiry dates.

Save the time and just buy a set of refillables. I have them for all my K3 Epson's except the P800. 9900, 9890 and 3880.
I advertise and purchase any K3 ink I can find. Paying .05 per ml (Sometimes more)
I have stopped purchasing as I now have over 10,000 ml of OEM K3 ink. There is a lot of K3 ink out there.
All you need is a syringe and you can pull the inks from any OEM cart you purchase and reinsert it in your refillables.
You just cannot reinsert ink into OEM carts. (Unless you do the port retrofit for 3800/3880 carts)

Shades of Paper in New Jersey is running an ad for expired OEM K3 inks this week.

I'm told that refillable carts are nowhere near as reliable as OEM carts due to their lack of pressurized mylar bladder bags. OEM carts prevent air from coming in contact with the ink and from getting trapped inside tubes.

eBay is the most common source of outdated inks. That's where I buy all of mine for my 7800, 9600 and 9900 printers. The 9900/7900 inks especially come in 700ml sizes and can be purchased for under $100 which makes the ink less than $.15/ml. I haven't yet tried to transfer ink from the 700ml cartridges into the smaller 7800 and 9600 220ml cartridges yet, but I plan to once I get enough empties.

Forgot to say one of the biggest reasons for extracting ink from OEM carts is to get the unused portion of ink you will never have access to.
It varies from 20ml to 50ml. That is a huge number especially if you have many carts. I had around 50 empties here that I pulled 1600ml. Well worth the several hours of time that I fooled with them.

For my 7800 and 9800 I use the STS inks refillables that have the OEM style internal bladders.  I have had a few chip failures, but they send replacements, and used to include two chips with each cart.  I'm not sure if the empty refillables are on the website, but contact me off line and I'll get you to the rep I use who supplies directly the products that may be usually reserved for wholesale.

(I designed the MIS B&W inksets, where the wholesaler was Image Specialists.  After Walt of IS died, STS bought the company and continues to supply those inks.  I have no formal connection to these companies and receive nothing for referrals.)

I have had very good success finding expired and unexpired Epson 220ml cartridges for my 7800 on Ebay, typically at 40-60% of retail.
