P25+ or P45+ Tethered Shooting + 503
« on: July 14, 2017, 12:47:29 am »

Hi!

Can anybody tells me if I can use a tethered liveview in combination with CaptureOne with those backs and my 503 Systems?
If not which "old"systems can handle this?

Liveview for Focusing in the Studio.
Is there a short video where i can see the workflow?

Best Michael

Hey Michael,

Here's live view on a P45+ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iabcIOsaJIY&feature=youtu.be
And a discussion on digital backs for the 503 https://www.photo.net/discuss/threads/digital-back-for-hasselblad-503cw.508967/

CCDs really really really doesn't like live view - it's like a constant stream of 'capture' -> send to camera -> 'capture' -> send to camera

I hope you can find a dealer local to you so as that you experience your workflow first hand.

Best

Two things are simultaneously true:
1) The CCD live view of the P45+/P25+ is far behind the quality/speed of CMOS live view (e.g. Canon SLR or P1 IQ250, IQ3 100mp etc).
2) For many years many photographers made a living from, and worked daily with, CCD live view in controlled-light studio photography situations. Some still do.

Clearly #2 was largely driven by the fact there weren't good alternatives, so mediocre CCD live view was the best thing going in relative terms.

So in summary:
- Possible? Yes
- Practical? Mostly
- Pleasant? No

I'd suggest you play with one before committing to a purchase. That should tell you everything you need to know about whether it will work for you. If you have any trips to NYC or LA planned please feel free to make an appointment at our Phase One Demo Studios where we could set you up with relevant lighting, camera, lens, and back, and you can see if it's a solution that works for you.
