The Rumour Mill: Next Canon DSLR
« on: August 23, 2006, 05:53:33 am »

Being that I have received two rumours about a new Canon model inside of the last 7 days.

The first was a comment from a high-profile Australian photographer that the next Canon "prosumer" DSLR would be something below the 5D in capabilities.

Then a reference to the following was passed on to me today:

I am not in the least bit interested - I regard my marriage to the 5D to be a lasting relationship...

Canon has announced the successor to the 350D (Rebel XT) in Hong Kong. it's called the EOS 400D, featuring 10.1 megapixels, 9-point focussing and (finally) a 2.5" LCD monitor.

a pdf describing various new products can be found at 20060824_Launching. the products include:
 EOS 400D
 EF 50mm/1.2L USM
 EF 70-200mm/4.0L IS USM
a couple of new PowerShot cameras.

like others, I'm hoping that new higher-end cameras/lenses will be announced at Photokina.

As with Michael's comments in his 400D review, I'm hearing nothing until 1st quarter '07.
