Hi JK. Actually I've always had a great appreciation for nature, beginning when I was a teenager who used to spend summers in northern Michigan -- in the days when you could go out in the woods and wander and camp for a couple days without seeing another soul.
Sounds nice.
I still prefer the hand of man, as I think most rational people do, unless they're buying art for display on bank walls.
Hmm, why the implication that those who don't like to see the hand of man aren't 'as rational' as those who do?
I would argue that a preference for nature is
more rational than a preference for its destruction/replacement with cement/smog.
My only problem is that during the summer it's difficult for me to get from where I'm now retired to a place where the hand of man is prominent. When things cool down a bit I'll start spending more time over in St. Augustine where I love to shoot the hand of man.
Interesting you would retire to a place you think don't think rational folks would gravitate to ... curious how you 'rationalize' that (sorry, couldn't help that

In the meantime, I'm in a place where nature is very beautiful. Gotta take advantage of that.
In all seriousness, it looks like a beautiful place. I lived 10 miles outside of St. Augustine, for a number of years (Elkton) ... as well as in Old Town (32680) on the Gulf side.
Much prefer North FL to South, although they both have their perks. If you want to check out a great time not too far from you, check out the
Wakulla Springs Lodge. It is a monument to "the hand of man," in that it is where both the original "Tarzan" was filmed ... as well as "The Creature from the Black Lagoon."
Nice, historical hotel ... and yet it offers old, deep-forest experiences and boat rides ... where you can photograph manatees, birds, turtles, gators, etc.
Anyway, hope you enjoy the serenity where you're at more and more ... there are a lot of butterflies up that way ... and some great foliage in that florid state.
