Cow attack in Tyrol Mountains
« on: June 07, 2017, 11:20:30 pm »

A hiker in the Austrian Alps was fatally gored when a cow charged at her.
Similar death occured in Tyrol in 2014.

I hate the practice of cows dehorning (particularly of the Braunvieh), now I must admit it makes sense... I hope only that the killers weren't (Swiss) Original Braunvieh...

In Switzerland, there has been a steady increase of those attacks. It looks like when calves are around, cows become more protective. Also, hikers with dogs seem to trigger attacks…

Happens everywhere, and the horns aren't necessary for these large animals to be dangerous: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/06/13/former-oxford-don-trampled-death-herd-cows/

I was thinking of this story last night as the cows watched me cross their field.  :o
