I've cleaned the mirror and top eye peice (do not know what it is called) inside the 20D many times. You know the type of spec. It's the one you see in the viewfinder. On the 20D, you jsut pec pad swab the upper whatever it's called above the mirror, with the lens off. That always did the job--specs gone.
Tongiht I noticed a rather large spec in the upper right hand quadrant of my 5D's viewfinder. So I took off the lens and cleaned the mirriror that covers the sensor, and the upper diffusion piece. No luck. So I took the diffusion piece out--as you tech orented people will know, there is a little clasp that allows you to open and take out the plastic piece. I found it by accident. It makes sense because I remember looking at those pieces on B&H, but not knowing exactly how to install them.
Anyway, I took it out and cleaned it with pecpad and swabs. No luck. So I took it out again and cleaned the upper mirriror (maybe not the corect name). Still no luck. So I looked through the viewfinder and could still see the tiny little spec--much smaller since I cleaned, but still there. I worked and worked on it, both on teh uper and lower mirros and diffusion piece, but I cannot get rid of it. Also, while looking thourgh the viewfinder without the diffusion piece in, it looks like the bottom or top mirror has three very find scrathes in it ( I cannot tell if it is the upper or lower). They do not show up with the diffusion piece in, but the spec still does.
Of course this will not affect the sensor or picture, but it is REEALLY annoying. The camera is still under warranty. Any suggestions? And I'm not happy with what looks line three fine scratches in one of the mirrors either. Are those things plastic mirrors?
The spec actually looks like it is on the back side of the top mirro, which I cannot get to. Is that possible?
