Just to bring the math down from the institutional to the {institutionalized} personal level:
Using the Imacon I can scan a 35mm transparency at 5000ppi once every 5 minutes, not counting retrieval, dust-removal, setup, etc. This figure also ignores the Imacon's tendency to sometimes slip the transparency's position, so that the scan must be repeated; and the scanner's use of autofocus on each scan, which slows the overall process, and excludes the operator's judgment until after the scan is completed. But if all goes perfectly, I can scan 400 transparencies in a mere 2000 minutes, or 33.3 hours. The DT Kit has been tested at a leisurely 400 scans in 1 hour for a single operator, and 800 or more with an assistant. And, as I say, with superior results.
Voodoo the math.
