Wide Gamut Monitor and the path to Sanity.
« on: May 08, 2017, 03:21:02 am »

 hi,

really, what's the point of working in a color managed environment
if you can only see it "right" in some specific color managed apps
while the majority of people will see it "wrong"?
the only way I can keep my sanity for now is to set my color management profile in windows to sRGB
now everything is consistent - too saturated. but at least it's consistent.

what do you think?

and another thing:
btw is there a way to use x-rite to calibrate my monitor for at least to be a decent sRGB color space?
can't see how to do that...

please help.

Thanks.

I didn't find the right solution from the internet.

The reason I calibrate and colour manage is to ensure my monitor and screen are roughly consistent (at least consistent enough for my use)
For browsing the internet I use Firefox, which is colour managed, so I see my own as well as other people's images (when colour managed) correctly.

If other people fail to use colour managed applications that's a pity, but also their loss and I am not losing any sleep over it.

Looks like you are a new member.  Rather than post everything in The Coffee Corner which really isn't for photography issues, you should post in the relevant sections of the Forum.  In this way you are likely to get more helpful responses.  For example you should have posted this one in the Color Management section.

Do you do your own printing, or use a high quality lab to produce prints for you?  If the answer is "NO" then there's really not much point in the expense of a wide gamut monitor, IMO.  If your "output" is all intended for screen type devices, they are all more or less sRGB - in which case a nice sRGB monitor "properly calibrated" would be a good thing.  I will still not guarantee you that others looking at your images "on a screen" will be seeing what you're seeing, but it will up the chances.
