I`m an architectural photographer and with an upcoming book project I will travel a lot.
I`m looking for an online/ offline solution to create personal maps, save upcoming places with pictures and comments,
best solution would be to be able to use the maps offline as well on a android system. (integrated navigation system...)

Does anyone use or can recommend such a app/ solution?
Greatly appreciate any insights on your workflow

thx
best regards
Laurin

Google maps now allows you to save maps for offline use.  Would that help you?

Thank you Phil, I have to take detailed look at it.
As I used it last time, I wasn`t able to name the tags.
So I ended up with a lot of unorganized pins.
(but that`s a year back...)

Hi Laurin,

As said Google Maps can store off-line map regions that you can define.

Personally, I also use MAPS.ME which uses detailed OpenStreetMaps map information that you can download for the regions you are interested in. I like it that MAPS.ME also shows house numbers, which can help in finding specific locations. Perhaps of less importance to you, although it might appeal to some other readers, is that it can also calculate pretty decent bicycle routes (and it also factors in height for the best route). Bookmarked locations can have personal text descriptions or URLs, but no photos. Currently, the bookmarks are not sorted (would be nice to have them sorted by distance or by alphabetically).

Cheers,
Bart

I'm looking for the same thing (except for an iPad) and have yet to find a satisfactory solution. I have determined, though, that Google Maps fails to cover many of the minor roads. I just finished a tour of the Great Basin in Nevada and Oregon and GM did not show most of the roads I traveled on, including some paved ones. A big disappointment.

http://www.geotagphotos.net/ is what you need.  Install on a phone, log your movements in one minute intervals or longer and then upload to the site and download to your computer.  If you use Lightroom its really easy to import the tracklog and easily attach the GPS data to all images in one action.

I strongly recommend HERE maps. Android/iOS. Formerly part of Nokia

The method for offlining maps is much less opaque than the Google maps implementation. You simply select which countries you would like to be available and download them.

You can also make collections of saved places and do in car navigation.
