Gelt Woods in November
« on: May 01, 2017, 06:45:43 am »

My local woods on a foggy day just as the sun was starting to break through. Taken in 2011 Olympus E410 kit lens. Hope you like it. Ken

Wow.  Nicely done.

I judge the "goodness" of a photograph on how much time do I enjoy looking at it.

This is a pretty good photograph in my opinion.

This is something I would like hanging on my wall, and that is something I rarely say.

Nicely done.

I agree 100% with Otto's comment - a lovely image - subtle, atmospheric, all about the scene, the resulting image, the photographer's eye. Excellent - would be delighted to have mage this and would proudly hang it on the wall.

Thanks for the comments. I have sat on this image for 6 years thinkin it not worth processing. I have recently "discovered" the joys of negative clarity and reduced saturation and that is what allows this misty backlit view to shine. Previously I would have ruined the shot by trying to make it pop. Now I need to trawl through older images for similarly ignored files. Ken

This was taken 30 minutes earlier and a few hundred metres away in an old Quarry. Roman inscriptions nearby tell you just how old. The stones for the nearby Hadrian's wall came from this location. I am not quite as happy with this shot perhaps the crepuscular rays just grab too much attention but I am loath to remove/ reduce them. Ken

An additional "thumbs-up" for the use of the word crepuscular.  ;D ;D

I have got into the swing of this now. So here is another image plus a reprocessing of the last one. Off to Northern France, before Mrs May closes the border, for a week of seascape photography plus a glass or two of wine. Ken

That's lovely too Ken. Do you think it might be worth slightly lightening the branch in the bottom left corner? It stands out a bit too much to my eyes. ( It's quite a lot blacker / more contrasty than anything else in the image.

There's a lot of Roman stuff in that neck of the woods ( no pun intended ): Hexham Abbey just down the road has a Saxon crypt made of reused Roman stone.
