Visual Dissonance
« on: April 20, 2017, 06:47:20 pm »

I can't find a single place in this image that my eyes are comfortable settling on.
I didn't want to sully the Abstracts thread with this shot but I am curious if others have the same response that I do.

It would also look good on the Abstracts thread.

The problem seems to be that nothing is quite in focus. I also like to turn it 180degr. But it fits the abstracts thread just fine. Call it "disillusion", then the focus issue fits the theme!

Well seen and is equally well-seen no matter how you pigeon-hole it.

I came back to it a few times. I would say it is an abstract and much of it appears in focus to my eyes, although some areas are not in focus. But that is part of the image and the limited DOF. Perhaps it's personal, but for me most images have some kind of underlying shape. And I see the larger drops as forming an irregular circle. It really is an outstanding image. Part illusion and part real. Well done!

Great image, though not the title.

Thanks everyone for your interesting comments.  Eric gets the the award for the 'Most Creative' in fact I think I like his reply more than I like the image.

Personally, I don't particularly like this image and my title reflects my response to it.  I was/am interested in the way others see it and how it registers with them.  The distortion and the DOF limitations leave me a bit uncomfortable but that doesn't seem to be a universal response.  Maybe I need to get by eyes checked.   :)

Thanks for having a look and responding.

It may not be beautiful, but it is certainly arresting.
Perhaps a little like a pimple that you just can't resist scratching.   ;)

(And maybe one reason I like it is that I recently experienced what is sometimes called an "Eye Stroke," or CRVO, which badly messed up my vision, mostly in my left (non-camera) eye. Under treatment, vision is improving, but your image does seem to symbolize what things were beginning to look like for me.)

I like the image. It's the kind of thing I can imagine as a very large print, hanging on a wall in a modern office (and no, that's not meant as an insult).

Sorry to hear about your eye, Eric: you seem to have been in the wars of late. Best wishes for a complete recovery.
