:aptop to Use with PSCS and RAW
« on: August 09, 2006, 07:03:58 am »

I need to upgrade my laptop very soon so I can not only shoot directly into it for studio work, but also to run and use PSCS2 RAW. I'm looking at this model from Toshiba (I want to go with Toshiba), but I'm not sure the Intel 950 series integrated graphics can handle that. I suspect that with 2 GBs of system RAM and the Intel's "shared" use of the system RAM up to 128MB, that it would do an adequate job. So I guess my question is, While using PSCS2 to process the files using RAW and PSCS2, will the Intel 950 integrated graphics be acceptable in performance, or do I need a dedicated video card? The price for this machine is 1350.00.

Anyone have a link to any PSCS2 type tests using the Intel 950 integrated graphics chip? I don't need to game on my laptop, just get PS stuff done reasonable fast and accurate colorwise.

In general, PS is actually requires very little in terms of graphics card performance. What is important is the ability for the graphics adapter/display combo to accurately color manage the display. I wouldn't fret over the graphics card performance - the biggest difference you'll notice would probably just be the relative 'snap' of the windows interface.

Magazines stopped testing graphics cards for 2D work years ago.
The only thing that's really important these days is getting 1.5 fps better in "Far Cry 42-End of of Civilisation As We Know It", than the other cards.

So will the 950 have the color rendering that we all need? I mean will it produce the colors well enough to edit photos accurately?
