Color Reproduction Guide for CH - Feedback Requested
« on: April 03, 2017, 05:31:37 pm »

Digital Transitions is requesting feedback (positive or negative, major or minor) on our draft Color Reproduction Guide for Cultural Heritage.

This guide addresses color reproduction in the context of solutions provided by the Digital Transitions Division of Cultural Heritage (i.e. DT benches, Phase One hardware, Capture One CH, basICColor, XRite, Eizo). It is primarily aimed at library, museum, and gallery shooters but will also be of relevance to anyone doing color-critical work such as fine art reproduction.

Note that the guide is meant to be read straight through, but two summary pages at the back provide a brief overview of the step-by-step process of ensuring accurate tone and color with our systems.

As with our Digitization Program Planning Guide this new document will benefit enormously from community input. We greatly appreciate any and all feedback members here might provide.

Feedback can be emailed to me at dep@digitaltransitions.com

I found this a very interesting subject. Does DT offers some sort of training program? Does anyone else does?
Thanks.

If I may be allowed a comment. As a former ICC member I have been exposed to some sampling of color management issues.

Color management usually fails because a "color leak" develops somewhere, at which point the comparison with the original subject is difficult.  Adding some memo of the initial conditions to every shot, eg a spectroradiometric measurement of the illuminant made with an i1 or colormunki would help a lot, and in fact in studio situations it would make sense to keep a colorchecker shot with each real shot, preferably showing  the subject of the real shot in the background,  in the same folder.

It would be feasible to embed a spectro sensor location in a repro easel.

DTDCH (our cultural heritage division) does a Phase One Cultural Heritage Specialist Training in NYC and LA 2-3 times per year.
