Lightroom and Fuji GFX 50s Performance

Hi,

maybe somebody can confirm oder deny this behavior.

When viewing GFX 50s RAF (RAW) files in LR in the Develop Modul I noticed a very bad performance.
I tested it our and found the following:
MBP 15 Zoll late 2016, Max Specs:

Browsing 3 images until sharpness is shown (I stand on pic 1 and then move to Pictures 2-4)
Compressed RAF files(ca. 64 MB): 27 seconds
Uncompressed RAF files(ca. 115 MB): 12 seconds
DNG Files(converted from Compressed RAF) (ca. 64 MB): 8 seconds.

Anybody has a similar experience?

That's why there is the Library Module for file management viewing images. In the Library module the Preview files are used to display the images. You can generate 1/1 previews in advance if you so desire.
The develop Module re-renaders the raw file data to display the display and therefore much slower that viewing in the Library Module. You can now also choose to render smart previews which you can use in the develop module to speed up the process.

For the 50 MP Canon 5DSR it takes for a CR2 file (which is compressed) about 8 seconds from i hit the D key in the library module until the details in the develop module is fully rendered and that is including editing. With no editing around 7 seconds.

The recent MacBook Pros aren't really the cream of the crop when it comes to performance. As much as I wish for Apple to step up their game, I don't think they will ever make machines with the professional needs as priority again.

I have the MBP 2016 15" and the LG 5K monitor and the timing I quoted was for that machine. I'm actually not waiting for the machine when editing and you don't need to wait for the rendering to have completed before you can drag sliders. So although lots of people are complaining about this and that it works for me. Of course, we would always like a faster machine and in 2017 there is a cpu upgrade waiting for the latest intel CPU's that were not available when Apple launched the MBP 2016.

The DNG performance would be due to DNG's tiling benefits - to utilize multiple CPU's for decoding.  (The DNG is also compressed.)

Give it a try in ON1 Photo RAW and then after a few hours go back to Lightroom, instant virtual performance boost!
