P800 and Crooked Prints
« on: March 17, 2017, 03:31:15 pm »

I went to mount a 17x25 print this past week.  When I went to cut the matt, I noticed the print was significantly off.  So today I took much more care and tried printing again.

I'm using an iMac, Epson P800, El Capitan and Lightroom 6.9.  The paper is Red River 68lb UltraPro Satin 4.0 17x25.  The actual size of the printed image is 16x18 1/2.  This equates to 3 1/4" margins on the vertical and 1/2" margins on the horizontal.

When I used the rear feeder, the horizontal margins are skewed a little more 1/16" which is noticeable.  One odd thing is only the two corners on the right side of the image are off.  The two corners on the left side are perfect.

When I use the front, fine art feed, the horizontal margins of all four corners are a little less than 1/32" which is more than acceptable.

So I'm wondering, has anybody else noticed this?  Is the front feeder by nature more accurate than the rear?  When I loaded the rear feeder, I only used one sheet of paper; should I have used more?  Or, is 1/16+" acceptable and I should just stop worrying?

Thanks,

Yes.  The exact same thing happens to me with large paper sizes. I send all large paper prints through the front fine art feed now.

My first 800 did this, as well as have one margin 1/32" off.  Epson replaced it.

I've not had any issues with mine, I regularly print full size A2 and pano's.

No issues for me either.  I regularly print 13x19 and 17x22 from the sheet feeder and front loader for fine art papers

I've also had difficulty with prints being crooked or skewed on my P800. Like Brian I have had to go to the front feeder to resolve this.

Thanks for the replies.

I have noticed a few people having difficulty using the front feeder.  With the few sheets I've used it with, I've had no problems.  Seems like that could be a possible solution.

On the other hand, it was a new printer that I paid full price for.  I should get full functionality.

Not sure what to do.

Thanks again for the help.
