Orchid Cattleya aclandiae
« on: March 14, 2017, 12:50:41 pm »

We're in the midst of a late winter snow storm, the perfect time to show off an orchid. This one is a Brazilian species, Cattleya aclandiae. Besides the beautiful colors, these flowers produce an aroma that can best be described as reminiscent of a middle east spice bazaar. This is the first bloom for this plant, so it's a bit smaller than what I'd expect from this species being ca. 2.5 inches across. Another flower spike is on the way, so that flower may be larger.

I hope you enjoy this photo, and please feel free to leave your comments.

Nice shot, Bob.

You didn't find that in my yard today! Our hired snow shoveller just left. There's about a foot and a half of heavy, wet snow, and it is now gradually chnaging to rain, so it won't even be good for photographs.

Thanks Eric. (We received around 5 inches of very wet snow that is now turning to 5 inches of rock-solid ice.)

Beautiful colors! The shape of the "leopard" colors petals looks like fingers that try to grab the pink colored part of the orchid.
Superbly done!

Really nice contrast between the camo and the colour.
