Are craigs the US spelling of our crags, or something else entirely?

I've known a couple of guys named Craig, but in the U.S. the rocky kind are called crags.

What? Somebody made an error on the Internet?? On LULA???   ???

Actually, the photo is quite nice, with the sunlit band on the left piercing the darks.

Hard to be sure with US spellings/pronunciations. You know, basil is pronouncrd basil, and oregano is properly pronounced oregano. You USAians really do seem to struggle with these.

I learned the proper pronunciation of Basil from the Fawlty Towers series on TV.   :D

It's only because my my mother was English that I have any idea of how to pronounce Gloucestershire (one of the easier examples, really).  :)

Here in Nova Scotia there is a village called Port Mouton. At one time, the village was called "Sheep Overboard" (what an image that makes). The locals pronounce the village name Port mah-TOON.

Yup. That's the reference.

How about this one, Jeremy:   "He's from Barcelona!"    ;)

There are lots of cities, towns, and villages in New England (USA) that are spelled and pronounced as they are across the pond.

Yes, but wherever a "U" appears after an "O," we delete the "U" just to demonstrate our independence.
Thus, "Colour" becomes "Color" and "Gloucester" becomes ... (Oops! Well, we have to keep some of the "U"s)   ;)

Some pronunciations are curiously different, too. The American habit of articulating the "h" in placenames such as Birmingham makes them sound very odd to English ears.

That's it!
Fawlty Towers is my all-time favorite TV series. I even bought the entire series on VHS tapes. Now, of course, I don't even have a working VHS player any more.   :'(
