Unusually shaped clouds, in my experience, and the foliage of the trees make an interesting shape but I don't find the clouds pleasing to look at. So, it would not be a keeper for me.

I very  much like the bottom quarter of the image as presented!!  The photograph looks as though it wants to be two seperate images.

I like it, Bill. I suspect you might have overdone the processing, though, adding even more drama to what was already dramatic.

And we have a "clouds" thread for shots like this!

I'm also leaning toward "overdone processing" but it's still a beautiful shot (composition, subject).

I like it very much, but since it is in User Critiques, if it was me, I'd knock the texture down in the clouds to contrast with the land and trees below. Of course, it's not me.... pronounced me ;)

Instead of killing the texture in the sky, how about adding some texture to the ground. As it is, the picture is upside-down from what one normally sees, with a darker ground and a lighter sky. It's liable to induce vertigo. The job needs to be done on the original raw version. It ends up too noisy if you try to do it on the jpeg.

OK, version 2. I used a green filter to darken the sky a little, this time no filter at all, just a straightforward B&W conversion. Whaddya think?

It's a thought. I'll give that a try too.

Much better, I think. You really should have a look at Nik (Google) SilverFX Pro. It's free and it does a fantastic job of b&w conversions.

I think the treatment is better but that the biggest challenge here is that you have two subjects on the right and none on the left.

Ooooohhh! Scott's right! Your composition simply isn't standard, Bill. Can't have that.

Interesting how Russ' proposal alters the mood in the sky. Hmmmm.... I like the your second version better, Bill.

All in all it's a stunning shot, Bill. (In spite of the fact that your composition flouts the "rules.")

+1.
But I would say: partly "because of," rather than "in spite of."
