Macro 1:1 over different screen types (TV, laptop, mobile)
« on: February 28, 2017, 08:16:29 pm »

Just checking how difficult is to focus in the 1:1 macro world. Olympus E-P5 + Konica Hexanon 55mm macro + extension tube. The first three images are 100% crops of 1:1 shots, i.e. the pixel size is comparable:

Sony TV:

Toshiba laptop:

Huawei P8 smartphone:

The laptop screen is the worst of the three, it is unable to produce deep blacks (black 8x8 pixels square):

The TV set instead can independently lighten/darken different sub-pixel areas, and achieves deep blacks when a black screen is displayed (higher DR):

Wow! Does the different pixel technology make the higher contrast ratio on the TV possible? Looks like each pixel is a 2-part pixel instead?
