Showing Parent Folder
« on: February 27, 2017, 05:21:37 am »

This is silly.  I am sure I know how to do this but have been messing about for 2 hours without success.

I have been in Cambodia and made a LR catalog on my MacBook Air.  The Photos were stored in a top level folder called, imaginatively, Cambodia with subfolders and sub-sub folders with pictures from various locations.  However I added the photos to the catalog from the  individual folders with the pictures in them and not from a top level folder.  Now my catalog simply shows the 15 folders (with subfolders inside them) but doesn't show that they all reside in the top level Cambodia Folder.  Clicking on the add button to the folder panel in Library offers a number of choices that affect the folders visible in LR but doesn't allow me to show them as being inside the Cambodia folder.  Once I've worked on them in their dedicated folder I'll then export to my main catalog.  How on earth do I do this?

thanks

In Folders panel, right click a folder and choose Show Parent Folder. You can do that more than once, and there's a corresponding Hide Parent Folder command.

Thanks

I knew it was simple and I knew it involved showing the parent folder.  I could have sworn that I tried that several times with no noticeable effect.  But then on the other hand I had just spent 13 hours on a flight from Bangkok and was still jet lagged after not enough sleep.

Thanks for answering such a stupid question.

The two items I always have difficulty finding are :

1. Show Photos In Sub-Folder
2. Turn On And Off Auto Advance

So I put these short tips into my Identity Plate.

See attachment.

Right Click always works for me to show the Parent Folder.

The panel end markers are another way to do add such reminders - see these ideas.

I can see lots of potential.

For example .... I could keep tips per module (ie library, develop, print).

Now that I am aware of this, it is a pity that ...

1. The same png file is displayed on the left and right panel. It would be nice to have the option to select different messages on each side.
2. In the same vein ... it would also be nice to select a png per module...

But .... we are limited only by our imagination.
