Harald~ The original I think would have worked too with just a bit more headroom. I liked him there... nice surprise. Actually played with a bit of content aware scaling to give him flight room and move the image toward square in doing so. Simply like the quietly serene atmosphere. (Don't lose him, you may find you miss him there. ) Like.
Don't be worry, I'm not going to miss him. But with the missing headroom you've got a real pain point because I've took a second frame in which I sacrified some foreground in order to get more headroom. Unfortunately, it's blurred!
That's the problem when you strolling around with just one fixed lens (here my 23 f1.4 honey). It was kind of a situation which everyone of us knows. The frame was determined by the horizonatal elements and I couldn't go back further because the promenade of Scheveningen is limited by a wall... A kingdom for my 18 mm...
After all it remains a snapshot with all of it quirks. I'm pretty sure that next time I'm visiting my daughter in The Hague I won't have this serene atmosphere. Sometime it's hard to just be an amateur
PS: Thank you for getting your teeth into my picture.
