Online DAM for photography archive
« on: February 09, 2017, 02:32:28 am »

Hey guys

Since I started a few years ago as an editorial photographer, tons of images are in my archive on RAID storage systems.
I got a lot of messages from magazines to reuse my images and it's always a pain to deliver those images fast, because they are stored on RAID drives connected to my MacPro. When I'm on the road, I can't access those files quickly.

Now I'm looking for a new web-based solution.
A digital asset management system which is hosted or self-hosted on a webserver, where I can upload my jpegs and tiff files and can sort them. It needs a good metadata system so I can search for keywords, places etc.

When a magazine now calls, I can search my database and send them directly a link of the images without uploading or downloading.

I'm searching now for a few hours, but what I found, has not the featureset I'm looking for or others cost like $800 per month which is way too much for me.

Do you guys have any good suggestions for that or a complete different workflow for my problem?

Thanks in advance

I found a proper way to do this.

There's a tool, which you can upload to your own webserver and setup a DAM system, which should work for me.

Let's see how it works over time :)

Hi,

Look usable. I'd be interested in your findings, and I'm sure other folks are as well.

Cheers,
Bart

Photoshelter is a common choice. I've had a personal account there for years for photo delivery, portfolio, etc. You can set it up to handle much of the work automatically. The basic professional account is maybe $500/year, I think.

Now I had some testing time with ResourceSpace and I'm quite impressed. There are a lot of flexibility options for example:
- create custom fields for metadata and important information about the photograph
- shop-integration and request-access function for customers
- great search engine
- custom image sizes for download
- and much more...

But I got an issue, where my images constantly disappeard from a collection and I had to relocate them. Very annoying and for me unusable, but there are lot of other people without this issue, so I'm working on fixing this issue, hopefully very soon :)
