New Issue: when & what?
« on: July 25, 2006, 08:57:26 pm »

I don't wish to start anything negative, but it's been about 4 months since issue 14 came out. Is issue 15 going to be released in the forseeable future? What can we expect in the upcoming issue, other than talk about Lightroom(which will be a seperate disc)? I've gone back over the past issues, and alot of it is quite dated, although many of the trips are still quite good.
Michael, I am courious as to at what point did you start to favor matte as opposed to glossy prints. I remember in issue 13 or 14, when you were discussing prints with a couple of your workshop participants, you talked about a prefering matte prints, but while watching issues 2 & 4 the other evening, you had glossy prints in hand.
As a thought, or suggestion, would you consider doing an updated segment on the changes in the B&W digital process(like Jeff Schewes' explaination of how he processes B&W). Or how the latest generation of printers/softwear(ABW, ImagePrint, Phatte Black, etc.), and newer papers have brought digital B&W to the ease which it is today compared to just 5 years ago.
As I said, just curious.

Issue #15 is in the final stages of being edited. The new Lightroom tutorial disk has also just been completed.

Each issue is a labour of love for Chris. High quality editing simply takes a lot of time, as does the composing of original music, and all of the other aspects of creating 2-3 hours of unique content per issue.

We've also had a lot of travel recently, and a trip to iceland later this week will mean that Chris loses another 10 days of editing.

That's why we no longer promise delivery dates on new issues. They come when they're ready, but as subscribers know, they're worth the wait.

I'll let Chris comment on what's coming in #15.

We're shooting the introduction next week. Hopefully it will not be more than another few weeks till it ships.

On one hand, I'm happy to receive the LLJ whenever it comes out.  But on the other hand the issue of managing expectations reallly can't be overlooked.

FWIW, my suggestion would be to promise semi-annual and occasionally exceed expectations by publishing a bit sooner.  It's priced on an "as issued" basis so shouldn't be a problem to market as a 4 pack.

If you would like to see the content planned for LLVJ-15, you may want to go to the Store page for Renewal at 15 for a ToC

FWIW

Today I successfully burned the first build of the now-completed LLVJ-15.

Keep your fingers crossed - I will update this thread as things progress. With no problems from here out, it normally takes at least two weeks to shipping . . .

We are still on track for a release of LLVJ-15 next week some time. And for those who can't wait - some extra information has been added to Renewal at 15

Do you ever end up with segments that do not make the DVDs?  You could You tube some MR bloopers.

The bloopers make the final cut, no?

I like Chris running in and out of the background adjusting the tripods on the Lightroom 3 Tutorial. I told my wife - "hey, I know that guy!"

Look for further inadvertent intrusions on LLVJ-15

. . . which BTW is sitting newly pressed but un-screened and un-packaged at the duplicators.

[sigh] oh well if I can take five months to produce it, I guess Duplium is allowed two weeks turn-around

Now the interminable wait for the Mail to do its job . . .

Subscribers should start seeing shipping emails in a day or two and hopefully DVDs will start to show up in mailboxes within 14 days . . .

And all over the world LLVJ subscribers are sitting by their mailboxes, drooling in anticipation, when they should be out photographing.

LOL - so true... Ive just finished going through all the back issues again and you know what my favourite segments are... [some feedback here Michael!]

The National park segments in both Canada and Yosemite... they are just so well documented and so very interesting to watch. Likewise.. the Tansania shoot segment - very interesting, informative and entertaining. Add... to that the issue 8 Iceland shoot - which is EXCELLENT.

I also really like the 'gear talk' segments - amazing how talk about such mundane items as accessories and plates and tripods can be so interesting. Love the Reviews of Cameras as well.

And would love to see more of the sort of stuff like in issue 15 on color management - its very useful.

A quesiton to finish though.. what happened to the assignment competitions?

P.S - any chance of a segment from the Antartic shoot? I reckon they would be stellar viewing!
Keep up the great work.

I don't think you'll be at all disappointed with Issue #15, which starts shipping this week.

Thank you for adding alternative shipping methods.  I gladly paid the extra $7 for UPS over the Canada Post this time!
