HELP!

Last night UPS delivered the Sony alpha 7Rii, Nikkor 19mm TC and the Fotodiox Pro Lens Mount Adapter K G to NEX DLX (FONIKGNEXDLX) from B&H to me.
Here is the adapter FotoDiox said would work that I purchased from B&H:
https://fotodioxpro.com/collections/lens-mount-adapters/products/nikg-snye-dlx

Charged the battery, studied the Sony GUI and hit a wall.

The adapter ring on the Fotodiox dlx - when rotated it does NOT alter the aperture on the lens.

Shot two test shots - one with ring furthest right setting, other at furthest left.
Images identical!

Please advise as I had set the weekend aside to run test shots between this setup and my H5D 50c with my 28 lens but have not control of the aperture.

Thanks for any help.

The 19mm f/4E TC is one of the new Nikon lenses to do away with the mechanical aperture lever, as they are operated electromagnetically. You would need an adapter that can send the proper signal to the lens, but I don't think such an adapter has been made yet.

Other lenses of this type are the new 24-70 f/2.8E and 70-200 f/2.8E, 16-80 f/2.8-4E, 105 f/1.4E, 200-500 f/5.6E, 300 f/4E PF, 400 f/2.8E FL, 500 f/4E FL, 600 f/4E FL, 800 f/5.6E FL.

Until an adapter is made, you can only use those lenses on a modern Nikon body.

OMG!  I checked the mount with both the Sales and Tech support folks at Fotodiox before ordering it!
So much for their reliability.

I have the H5D 50c WiFi with the Hassie 28mm and wanted to run some comparisons between the two cameras this weekend.
Was particularly interested in the Tilt/Shift of the 19 as I used to shoot 4x5 and enjoyed it.  Also for Architectural work I am focusing on.

So, does the setup by Sony cancel the use of any non-Sony lens with the Alpha 7Rii?

Sorry to hear!

I have a similar problem when I put my Canon lenses on my HCam Master TSII tilt adapter. What I do is to dismount the lens during an exposure with a lenscap on. Normally, I would use the Canon lens with the Metabones IV-T AF-adapter. That works fine.

A solution for your issue may be the Commlite Nikon AF to Sony A7 adapter:

Please note that there are a few "It killed my camera!" reports about it!

On the other hand, Jim Kasson seems to be happy about it, he is a really good guy, why don't ask?

Actually I was mistaken, there is an active adapter for the lens! https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1265004-REG/vello_lae_se_nfv4_select_nikon_f_lens.html

EDIT: I see Erik was faster than me. Still the Fotodiox adapter definitely doesn't work besides "can mount the lens". Shows how much some sales rep know about technical details!

Reviews on that puppy at B&H are poor at best.  That's disappointing to see.

So, to test the Sony array/sensor to the Hassie 28mm lens, I want to now find a Sony lens with excellent sharpness Wide angle.
I want glass as good as Hassie's 28 or better.
Looking at:  https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1140832-REG/zeiss_2103_750_25mm_f_2_0_batis_wide.html

And lusting for - well that was before I read several reviews on it that were quite negative:

IF I can get image quality close enough to the H5D with any Tilt/Shift lens help, it would be well worth the money as I'd sell off all of my
Hasselblad gear.  Thought?

But, shows it an FE mount but is that an assurance it will allow manual control of the aperture?

The Nikon 20mm 1.8 is a great lens, especially stopped down. It should be very close to the FOV you get from a 28mm on the 50MP back. That lens will work with the adapter you have and costs about 1/4 of the 19mm.

For tilt and shift can't suggest you much, but Chris Barrett uses the A7Rii on an Arca-Swiss M2 with Canon (and Contax?) glass.

Hi Jack,

Canon lenses are probably safest choice or any lens having a manual aperture.

I bought my Sony A7rII with a Canon 24/3.5 TSE LII for architecture work. It was intended to be used with the Metabones IV. My first adapter, the next one works fine.

As a landscape shooter I am more interested in tilts than shifts. For that I have a HCam Master TSII tilt and shift adapter. That does not control aperture, but I can stop down on another body and remount the lens.

To make life a bit easier I got myself a Contax 35-135/3.3-4.5 lens. It is pretty good for tilts but doesn't offer significant shift, but it has a manual aperture and that is very nice. Later I also added a Contax 28-8/3.3-4.5

For shift work I sometimes use the Canon 16-35/4L. It offers say 3 mm of shift at 16 mm but quite a lot from 20-35 mm. But you need to use it stopped down.

Cambo and Arca have adapters controlling the aperture of the Canon lenses.

Using a Pentax 645 zoom may also be a good solution.

The Canon 11-24 zoom seems to be very useful. i wish I would have bought it instead of the 16-35/4 and the 24/3.5 TSE.

The things I have work very well for me. But, I am more of a landscape shooter than an architecture photographer. As it happens, I shoot a lot of church interiors as a travel photographer.

Just to say, the 24/3.5 TSE LII I have does a good service on the Metabones IV-T adapter I have. But, it is not very sharp corner to corner on the A7rII. On the other hand, it is not very unsharp either. So, it works great if you are not demanding more than it can deliver. I can dig up some samples if you are interested.

The 16-35/4 works great with the A7rII, at 24-35 it outperforms all my other lenses, like 40/4 FLE and 60/3.5 Distagons on the "Blad", the Zeiss 24-70/2.8Z and the 24/3.5 TSE LII.

Right now, I am using the Sony A7rII mostly with Canon lenses, 16-35/4L, 24/3.5 TSE LII, 24-105/4 L. For longer zoom I use the Sony Alpha 70-400/4-5.6G, a god lens with an unhealthy amount of field curvature.

Best regards
Erik
