2016 MBP 'base'

It's an external USB-C dock with drive sled, usb3 ports, gigabit ethernet, designed to attach to the bottom of our favorite laptop.

Maybe a good option for some. I have transitioned pretty much to usb-c and bring a card reader for SD and CF cards and a usb-c to usb dongle with me which I had to do anyway. If I needed more SSD storage on the go I would go for the small Samsung T3 drives.

Pretty cool solution.  they don't give actual weight and thickness increase specs.  It's cool that you can add 4TB of internal storage with it but it seems a base that size could have also handled an additional battery...

Yes, but 4TB of SSD would be a quite steep price (although I did not see a price) and when would you really need this amount of SSD?
