Calibration question
« on: January 27, 2017, 06:11:59 pm »

In PS, you can choose to edit in profotoRGB. Two of the charactisitics of this editing space are a white point of 5000K and a gamma of 1.8. If you are using Eyeone calibation software, if you choose the advanced mode, among your choices are white point and gamma. The default gamma for Windows is 2.2. Should your choice of gamma and white point match your PS editing space? If not, why? How would other choices affect PS or other Adobe software, if you have the color spaces synced? Thanks For any info. I'll be very appreciative.

It doesn't much matter. You can set the white point at whatever you like, the colors displayed on the monitor are transformed to that white point. As for gamma, the best setting is Native for the least amount of banding. Color management adjusts for whatever gamma you set the monitor to so you won't see any difference in how an image is displayed in color managed apps. It can make a difference in non color managed apps. 2.2 provides the best results for those. That's usually close enough to Native that, if that's an option, you should just use that.

Try it. Load an sRGB image the convert it to ProPhoto. You won't see any change.
