9900 not recognizing LC Cartridge
« on: January 21, 2017, 11:53:18 am »

I've swapped it in and out before for head cleanings, but now the old cartridge is spent and needs to be replaced, but for some reason the new one isn't being recognized any longer.

Any ideas?

Maybe the chip contact somehow got damaged from swapping. Call Epson tech support.

Unfortunately they're not open on the weekend. Just wanted to see if anyone knew of a quick fix. It'll take me a 4-5 days to get a replacement.

take a very very close look at the contacts on the chip and verify that you see 'tracks' (indicating that the fingers in the printer are all touching the cart.

Is it possible to swap the chips just to see if it's a cart/chip problem or a problem w/ the specific color slot and the fingers?

I've checked for track marks - and yes, it is making contact. I'm not sure about swapping the chips. They don't 'snap' back in and are rather loose. Also, I believe the chip 'tells' the printer if there's any ink left and if the cartridge is empty it won't load it either. At the price of a new cartridge, I don't want to take a chip off a full cartridge only to find it won't work afterwards.

other than the old "spit on the contacts" trick (well maybe just rub them with a little ) to see if there is some oxidation or other issues when making contact, the only recourse it to get the cartridge replaced.  I've had this happen once in the last 10 years so it's pretty rare, but certainly doesn't make the person it happens to feel any better. Your dealer or Epson will swap it out of course, but I know that doesn't help in the short term. sry I can't think of a better suggestion.

Thanks guys. I'll check with my dealer. Of course it happens on the weekend when support is closed - never fails.

My 9800 did this. The chip contacts in the printer were damaged.  I had to replace the RHS cart receiver.  Not easy, but a possible DIY, if you can get the part.

OK.... got a new cartridge and replaced it - works fine. The problem was with the cartridge.  My local dealer is replacing it for me. :)
